PostSubject: Controlled Crying   Controlled Crying EmptyMon Feb 13, 2012 8:16 pm

We're trying controlled crying today. One part of me thinks it's too early but the other part knows I need to do it. Joshua will fall asleep on me in the evening but will not go down in his cot at all. Most nights we put him in the cot at 11ish (when we go to bed) but he ends up with us by 1am. He doesn't want feeds in the night, but wakes just for dummy or cuddle. I feel like CC is whats needed cause can't go on with him attached to be all evening (he will scream if Matt tries to hold him anytime after 6.30!) and then waking up in his cot after an hour or two. I'm not looking forward to it though, with Imogen we were quite good at it and got quite strict (she was around the same age) but I seem to be finding it harder with Joshua. I think i'm babying him more cause I know he's my last baby and I don't want him to grow up.

Mostly pointless but if anyone has any advice on making Joshua like his cot, helping to get him down for the night, i'd be really greatful

The only advice I can offer is routine routine routine. Bath, Jarmies, bottle and bed. Stick to same routine every night and the same times.

I'm a huge fan of controlled crying. It's just a way for us teach our babies that bedtime is sleep time, not cuddle time, snack time, milk time it's sleep time. End of.

Remember you're doing this for his sake as he needs his sleep.

I did cc with eldest (as I was young mummy and we got into bad routines) but it was really quick and straight forward. ( apart from me crying sobbing on the landing about my poor baby girl). But it worked. With my last two it was easy because I didn't take any messing from about 4 months when they started sleeping through.

Good luck shell, it's not easy but it's soooooooo worth it Smile

Thanks Penny. I found it simple with Imogen, but struggling with Joshua (we've half heartedly attempted CC in the last week), it's so silly cause I know how much better it will be once he is in his routine but can't seem to stop myself hugging him.

Yep, as Penny says structured routine. We did it at around the same as age Joshua for both Libby and Dexter and never looked back.

Dexter was very similar to Joshua in that in was waking up every 1 to 2 hours and I would shove him on the boob to pacify him back to sleep. I was absolutely knackered and so decided something had to be done.

The routine we have now is dinner at 515pm ish (when I walk get home from work), bath/changed for bed straight after, teeth at around 615pm then we go in Libby's bedroom to read a story and she's down by 630pm, I then take Dexter in the lounge and get his sleeping bag on, both boobs emptied and straight to bed. They are both pretty much always asleep by 7pm and *normally* sleep straight through til 7-730am. It took probably 2 weeks to get into this routine properly but it's absolutely great now.

Anyway, good luck and I really hope the little man gets into a good routine for you!! xx
