He could well be. I started weaning at 18+3 weeks as Amelia was feeding every 30 mins and I was exhausted! Might be worth trying a little something and see how you get on xxx

Have you heard of the banana test? If you peel a banana back, sit your LO up and hold it out to them and they try and break a bit off and put it in their mouth they are ready.... Think I read it in a magazine, it sounds a bit odd but apparently health people have agreed.

I cant offer much advice. Caitlin was the opposite at 6 mths she still happily took 4 btls a day and averaged 24oz in total.
They say anyway its fine from 17 weeks if you avoid gluten. x

dont give him food too soon before bed. least 2 hours. going to bed will full tummys can cause digestive problems in little ones and tummy cramps and such like. or so my HV's have always said.

try mabey a few spoons of whichever u choose, with his morning bottle and then again at tea time bottle. see how he gets on with that. iv always been advised to start them on on little portions then gradually increasing it, then intoducing a 3rd meal in the after noon. it helps their little systems get used to it, less chances of things like constipation and trapped wind. give their wee bodys a chance to adjust to solids.

it will prob take a week or 2, depending on how ur wee fella takes to it, u will know ur self. gradually is more efficient than ladling the plate up and stuffing them full... so to speak xx

PostSubject: Re: Question for those who had to wean early?   Question for those who had to wean early? EmptyWed Oct 13, 2010 6:59 pm

I had a cr@p night. After waking up at 9.30pm for a full bottle he then woke at 1.30am for another 7oz then at 5am and drank 5oz. He had drunk so much the poor mite was soaked this morning. I am going to try a couple of spoonfulls of something after his 11am bottle see how we go. It could be another growth spurt but has been going on a while and have ok from HV so am going to start I think.

Stephen started waking up hungry in the night loads and that was when I started to wean him. I just gave him a tiny bit of baby rice and really gradually increased it but it made an instant difference! Hope you have a better night tonight xxx

Lillie was aobut 13 weeks also when I started with her, HV said I should but she then started sleeping better and being alot more settled.

I found hungry milk didnt do it for her either, make her sick. so I stuck to the same milk just gave her rice inbetween.

hope works xx

I started weaning both my 2 at about 4 months for 2 reasons, the first was they started to be hungry and want more bottles and the 2nd was that 7 and 10 years ago the advice was to wean at 4 months!!!

I started off with a couple of spoonfuls of baby rice once a day and increased it from there! I also made it quite runny for a start too!!

I really hope you get a better nights sleep tonight x

I started weaning Alfie at 16 weeks as he was drinking 9oz bottles every 2 hrs!!

I tried baby rice but he hated it! So i tried him with a couple of spoonfuls of porridge after his morning bottle and he loved it!!

Just so u know they advise against putting rice into the bottles. if you are giong to try some rice - give him it off a spoon.

I started weaning Libby at 16 weeks, she had stopped gaining weight and was constantly attached to me!!!! I tried desparately to give her a bottle but she just wouldn't take it so didn't feel like I had a choice. I didn't tell my HV because I just knew she would frown on me weaning so early.

It certainly sounds like the milk alone isn't satisfying him but really it's only you who can decide, mummy knows best Very Happy xx
