When did your little ones star saying words? Sam has started babbling (15 months) but will not copy any words. He says mamma, ta, baby and has said car and tractor once.
All my boys have been slow with talking though Neutral

Jamie always babbled a lot but never said one word, not one till 18 months, now he's rolling them out and has come on so much since 18 months, i guess they all do it in there own time and do catch up in the end Smile

Thomas has only now started to even attempt to copy me and he is 22 months. He is saying a new word most days now but not always carrying it on - he may say it one day then not again for weeks scratch I'm sure he will get there soon.

I think you could be right about that Terri (obviously there will be exceptions) I have found the same with babies in my family - the girls are all little chatterboxes and the boys seem to take longer but are little daredevils. I already think Hannah will be a much earlier talker than Thomas. Even at 4 months old she is constantly cooing and is very very vocal whereas Thomas didn't make much noise at all. She will sit and 'talk' to you for ages if you chat to her - so cute now but I can see in a couple of years time I might need a set of ear plugs Laughing

Theo still hasn't said even one word! He makes absolutly no effort to talk, insted just pointing and grunting when he wants something Rolling Eyes . I think the problem is he knows he can get his point accross without making the effort of using words.

I wouldn't worry Mara, Sam was quite quick at mastering his mobility so his language skills will have taken a back seat, but once he does start it seems to come on really quick from then.
15mth is still quite young though, he'll just be taking everything in, like a little sponge Smile As long as he's babbling then I wouldn't worry

Oliver said his first word (mama) at 7-8mth, then dadda, Harry, doggy, Hiya before he was 12mth - Now he NEVER shuts up, he can talk the hind legs off a donkey Shocked
I'm not sure if he's advanced, behind or spot on for his age, but my friends LO whos daughter is the same age has the same sort of vocabulary too.

They were both quite late crawlers and moo was a slightly later walker, but the talking has come on leaps and bounds.

Aimee said 'dadda' really early and things like 'cat' 'ralph' and a few other words, but that was it.

But just lately she has really started talking loads and copying everything. In the last 2/3 weeks she really does say tons of stuff and even counts to ten now!

Cerys isnt showing interest in trying to talk she just babbles but i have noticed in the past few weeks she has suddenly started to point at things. so thats her first attempt at trying to communicate.

Lisa !!! I had to give you a point for your reply, it made me giggle "Daddy is a twat" Laughing

George is not quite 17 months. He can say mama and dada but actually other than that I really don't understand anything else that he says. He's quite talkative which is good (I think) but sometimes I wonder what are you talking about.

Quite funny actually. My friends daughter is a month older and compared to my son, she could recite the dictionary. Slight exaggeration there. lol.

They are really all different arent they Laughing

My older 2 boys both had speech therapy for a while (although you would never believe it now Rolling Eyes ) so it does make me wonder if he will be the same.

On the other hand Chelsea could hold a full conversation at 12 months! And she hasnt shut up since Evil or Very Mad

Caitlin has always been very vocal, cooing and babbling from about 4 months. I swore she would talk early but she's not. She still shouts and rambles on constantly but its mainly rubbish. She did say mamma, dadda, cat, stuart, sock, shoe, yes, quite a few times between about 8/9 mths and 1. Now I cant remember the last time she said them clearly. She does say NO constantly and laughs while saying it and if I say one she says two.

Im not too worried she seems to have forgotten how to talk. It almost seemed that as soon as she learnt to walk at 11.5-12mths she stopped saying words. Walking, running, climbing took over her attention.
