Is this postnatal depression?? _
PostSubject: Is this postnatal depression??   Is this postnatal depression?? EmptyTue Aug 24, 2010 6:22 am

Evenin ladies,

Im not sure if i have pnd or am just a bit of a stresshead confused Neutral

The 'symptoms' i feel are

1. Not feeling like im a good enough mum / bit of a failure
2. Mood swings - one minute im fine, and the next I feel like im gonna explode (but not depressed!)
3. Feeling very 'hormonal'
4. A bit screeechy
5. Could burst into tears in frustration with Isla at the mo (seriously testing my patience!!)

I take anti-d's anyway for anxiety, so not sure what help there would be...........but ive got an appt with Dr in the morning for a medication review so I thought id mention it to him

OR

Is this just a bit of a hormone dip after pregnancy........as I really dont feel depressed

I'm not sure sweetie, best to talk it over with the doc. I know I felt like this a bit after I had Amelia but I didn't have PND. With me I was just frustrated as I seemed to be stuck inside all the time attached to a baby and it took a bit of getting used to. Maybe it's just you adjusting but deffo talk to an expert. Hope you feel better soon xxx

i felt like this for about the first month after having ava, i was so happy but just burst into tears at nothing and questioned myself all the time. i think a lot of it is your body adjusting and hormone levels settling down, after 9 months of pg, labour and sleepless nights you're bound to be a bit emotional. if it continues i would definately chat to your GP x

How are you sleeping?

I find that I get very emotional when I am exhausted. Running around after a toddler and a tiny baby must be really taking it out of you.

How about getting your OH to do some kids duties this week, or even at the weekend, and try to get some relaxation and some 'you' time. You may have a clearer idea of how you are feeling then xx

Im sleeping fine..............between night feeds Laughing

Poor OH is doing loads already, he really is a little star!! I think its just what you guys have said.........I think im just tired, and have a very 'challenging' toddler, and a colicky newborn!!

I will check though in the morning, as I dont want anything PND related to creep up on me and bite me on the bum!

Thanks ladies xxx

It all sounds very normal to be hun. Once the euphoria wears off and the sleep deprivation kicks in, it's only natural to feel like you explain. I was up and down for at least 3 months.

While these are also symptoms of PND, it does run a lot deeper. When I had it I absolutely hated myself. I felt worthless and useless. Extremely depressed, thoughts of ending it all and really felt like I was trapped under a black cloud.

I think that now you've recognised how you feel and perhaps after having a good chat with your Doc or HV, you'll be able to pass this by. And should PND creep up you'll be more aware of the signs.

Just remember, you're a great Mummy and you're doing a fantastic job x x x

Does sound like a normal dip to me hon. I know when i had pnd i had all the above you mentioned but also couldnt bring myself to get dressed, thought about leaving c with neil and my mum and leaving cos i was so useless she was better off without me and on a few occasions considered running my car off road. If you think its creeping in though chat to gp
