advice about depression? _
PostSubject: advice about depression?   advice about depression? EmptyThu Sep 30, 2010 9:39 pm

I'm quite worried about my OH. He's a stay at home Dad even though he would rather be out working (he hates being home all the time)
He can't drive so can't even go anywhere with Tyler
It's too hot to walk anywhere at the moment
so he stays in all day with Tyler until I get hom in the afternoon.

He has a bad back at the moment too which he's down about. he's not being himself and he sent me a text earlier sayign

"I still love you lots, I'm sorry for being grumpy all the time, I hate what i'm becoming, hope I can sort myself soon and get out of the down im stuck in"

Ive known for a while that he's "bored" at home but I didn't know he felt this bad... he said he's gonna explain to me later why he's so down but I think its being stuck in all the time.

What can I do to make him feel better or to help?

Sad

Even having been in that situation, i can't offer much advice. for me i just found one day I just snapped out of it. I would say keep offering your support and try not to get frustrated at him, i know it was horrible when oh or family got annoyed me at cause i knew how annoying i was being, i didn't need to be told. Hope he's feeling better soon x

Aww i can understand where your ohs coming from, as that was me last year. It is hard being stuck in all day when u dont drive. I cant really advise though Sad Does he have any friends that come round in the day? Does he go out in the eves? Even popping to the shop everyday, it feels good to get out. Or taking Tyler to the park for 30mins?

I know it's so hard I dunno what ot say to him or how to help.. we don't really know any people here Terri so it's not as if anyone can come round to see him. the park's are aaaages away.. we live in a little village (hilly little village) and it's prob a 45 min walk down hill to the nearest park on a little road with no pavements.

We're looking into sendign Tyler to a nursery for 2 mornings a week and whilst my OH still won't be getting out the house he'll have time to do the things around the house that he wants to get done I dont know if that will help him though.

I think eh doesn't like to talk to me about it either because he knows I want to be at home with Tyler we just can't afford for me not to work!

You make him get out, even for just a little walk or drive to somewhere. He will not want to go the first few times, and may even become pissy, but it's important to get him out of his lull. Everyone hits a down period in their life, but it's important to fight your way out of it, before it becomes a chronic condition. Even just a change of scenery can brighten someone's day, and eventually, he'll snap out of it. Just don't let him wallow hun. xxx
