| just wondering - did you have different treatment in your 2nd or subsequent pregnancies? am i right in thinking you have a higher chance of developing pe if you have had it before??? i was idly thinking about these things yesterday and wondered if i would ever get the water birth i wanted haha funny thought to cross my mind but nobody really mentioned if there would be any implications should i get pregnant again??? |

| My consultant told me that because I had it severley and early then theres a 60% chance of me getting it again, I don't know what care I will be having this time, it still needs to be finalised.
I think it depnds on how bad it was wether your chances of having it again are higher x |

| Also been told as i had it early and severely im at higher risk of reoccurrence, i think theres no exact figure it can be from 10-80% depending where you read
Theoretically im under consultant led high risk care which shud mean regular consultant appts, doppler scans at 22,24,26 week and growth scans at 28, 32,36
In practice i saw consultant at 10 weeks then not again til 28. ONly reason ive seen em in between is cos my midwife is worried and sent me up to be rudely brushed off by one of his minions, ive also had my 22,24 and 26 week scans condensed into a 24 week scan
So generally hope you get more adequate care than me hon, if you stay ok in a 2nd they may consider water birth, think if i mentioned it to my mw she would laugh in my face so pre planned section for moi x |

| my bp crept up from 26 weeks but didn't have pe as such (protein, urates etc) until 35 weeks and was induced for natural labour at 37 - bp soared and was getting told they might do a section when labour started but had him in 2.5 hours so it didn't get to that... so i think i was fairly mild going from that - i wonder if the % risk goes down by severity then...like you mario the stats seem almost random really but theres a suggestion that it is more likely to recur. im not planning on ttc just yet but think it's something i need to consider before we think about getting pregnant again (and tbh im not over the awfulness of last time haha) hahaha i don't think underwater sections have a high success rate! i had really really good care and felt completely over-attentioned at the time so hopefully it would be similar this time, i cant believe the shit you are going through! |

| If you have it before 37 weeks it's classed as early x |

| i didn't have symptoms though and was monitored as an out-patient (antenatal assesment unit every 2 days) for 2 weeks...i dunno, they never told me anything really, including what drugs they gave me while i was in labour to try and bring my bp down! not that im complaining i couldn't give a f*ck at the time |

| On paper, the risk is around 60-70% of recurring PE.. but that is just statistic, and it varies from one research to another...greatly. In practice, it is best to be cautious and make sure you go to your ANC regularly. or if you have a tensimeter, check your own BP every other day. |

| that's good - at least you have someone on board! it sounds like yours was much more severe than mine but it is a bit of a worry if we thought about ttc again - im suprised (hmm thats not the right word) that nobody mentioned it at the time, but nobody really explained anything to me my husband just kept track of what was going on and told me about it after haha i guess other than self-monitoring and hoping for a decent antenatal team there isn't a whole lot we can do about it |

| Yeah mine was classed as severe pe in a letter i got from my consultant that came with a raft of other advice such as not going back on the pill cos of risk to bp etc etc I guess just being aware of symptoms, ive had to flag it up when ive had em as if i sat back and left it i wud probs have a sky high bp by now so its being pro active i think |

| Thanks Ken, it's good to have a percentage. When I went for my consultant appointment my bp was 135/79 and they noted that it was high for me, it was 120/66 at my booking in appointment, so I feel quite confident they will keep it in check! Nobodies ever mentioned about the pill to me Mario, maybe I'll have to find an alternative method of contraception, I don't really fancy having 3 babies in under 2 years, my poor body will never get back to nomal |

| ugggggh coil, no ta! they didn't mention the pill to me either but im trying to stay away from hormones to try and get my own to settle down! maybe after i am done bf. i didnt have any symptoms at all so i would imagine that i would check myself regularly just cos i know i wouldnt get warning signs |

| haha. i dunno about checking it so often, u might just get more n more paranoid.. Just follow the protocols, consult it with your ob, and pray for the best. sorry, but pills (or any hormonals contraceptives) do have a tendency to raise your bp. so if u have high bp, try other methods..like condoms / coils.. well, I hope u dun get any recurrences at all. cheers! |
