dropping feeds? _
PostSubject: dropping feeds?    dropping feeds? EmptyMon Dec 27, 2010 7:12 am

hmmmm elijah has been weaning for maybe 6/7 weeks now, he is having two pretty decent sized meals a day (i cant seem to find a good time to add another one, but probably need to). elijah seems to be losing interest in his milk feeds - i am wondering which would be best to drop?

he still wants his morning feed, this is about 9am-ish, but that pushes his breakfast to after his nap..so closer to 1pm

so by teatime he is ready for his tea, then has a milk feed not long after that

then one more milk feed (a long one though, on and off for easily an hour) later at night and maybe 1 during the night.

so a total of approx 4 milk feeds - 2 long ones and 2 little ones and 2 meals (cereal+finger food or savoury something + sweet something usually).

it doesnt seem like much milk to me??? he rarely cries out of hunger, i recognise the signs before he gets that far...and we will go onto lumpy foods starting this week - but he still needs milk! and im worried he isnt getting enough especially as he eats more???

sorry if none of that made much sense hahaha ahem...if i offer milk (or food) he will 99% of the time take it but often throw it back up if he wasn't actually hungry...what to do?

erm im not too sure as alfie is forumla fed but his routine is now-

8/9 (whenever he gets up basically) - 8oz bottle
9.30 - breakfast
12.30 - dinner with a drink of juice
3 - snack
5pm - tea with a drink of juice
7pm - 8oz bottle

eli gets his first feed the same time as alfie gets his so i dont see any reason why eli cant be getting his breakfast at around 10? i know it seems quite soon after his feed but im sure he wouold still demolish it!! i know alfie certainly does. altho we dont have morning snacks atm because his morning food is quite squished togeter but once i go back to work this will change as he will be getting his first bottle at 8 and breakkfast at nursery at 9.

you could go:

9am - feed
10am - breakfast
1pm - dinner plus water
3pm - snack
5/6pm - tea plus water
then a feed before bed?

which means he will be filling up more on food and getting his 3 meals a day and not needing the milk as much.i think he is prob getting the milk he needs from his two long feeds so you could replace the 2 shorter onces with water?

sorry not much help i know its more confusing with breastfeeding as u cant tell how much theyre actually getting x

Izzy was only on 2 meals til she was 1...she just didnt seem to want to drop her milk and have food til then, and naturally she just seemed to ask for food more often than milk

Til she was one, IIRC, she had milk on waking, then hour or so later brekkie like porridge, then milk, then lunch, then milk til bed

hmm today we have done milk, small brekkie (a new savoury thing, so better to give it earlier), then milk, another little milk, tea, little milk (think he's growing!) and we are going to do cereal at maybe 9pm - hopefully it will improve his recent insomnia!
