One of my best friends is pregnant and has emailed me to tell me the name she has chosen for the new arrival. To be honest I can't stand the name but obviously did not want to say so as if she likes it then that is all that counts. Anyways i was non commital and she has just emailed me back to say "well, what do you think about the name??" What do i say? Shall I tell the truth and say its not my cup of tea or white lie and say i like it???

OMG difficult one. I have to say, so as not to cause upset, that it was cute. That way you haven't said you actually like it. Unless she's the type of friend who could take it in which case I'd say something like are you giving them a middle name they can use rather than them need change the whole lot by deed poll when they're 18??!

Thanks ladies, i was edging towards lying but feel really uncomfortable fibbing to an ace friend! I think if she would have had a choice of names i would have said i dont like it but as its the only one she has mentioned its a bit tricky!

Tell us the name. I don't think anyone will mind if it's their child's name. We all have different taste. I'd use what Kenty suggested when answering your friend. My aunty has always told me she doesn't like the name Imogen but it's never bothered me, she just said "if that's what you like i'll grow to like it cause it's your little girl but it's not my taste"

I think I would probably tell the truth tbh - in as tactful a way as I could. The thing is if you think it's bad how many others do and that poor child has to live with people doing this> when they introduce themselves
