When I was at the hospital last week with my spotting, they did a swab with a speculum whilst I was there...I had to ring to get the results this week, but the doctors surgery has just rung me and said that the hospital would like me to make a routine telephone appointment to discuss it....now im worried.

They are phoning me at 10am tomorrow morning. xx

I wouldn't worry hun, if there was something really wrong they'd have whisked you in straight away x

Hmmm. I wouldnt be too worried. If it was urgent they would want to see you in person. They arent going to give you bad news over the phone.

Could it be that you carry that strep virus? I dont know much about it & I wasnt swabbed for it. As far as I know they just need to be extra careful delivering baby and perhaps give anti-b's to you and baby after birth. Tbh I know bugger all about it so perhaps shouldnt be commenting.

Try not to worry too much. x

Like Lita said if it was something bad they'd have you in straight away. Sometimes if one of the results is a little bit raised then they might repeat it just to check, they did that with me and it was nothing xxx

The doctors have probably called you, to tell you to call the hospital, just so that the hospital can tell you the results were fine.

Im my experience of hospitals, the left arm doesnt know what the right arm is doing half the time.

If it was anything serious you would be taken straight in or told to go to your doctors immediately.

I can only echo what has already been said. I got called back in after I'd had a smear (I was panicking like mad too waiting to go back in the next day!) they just had to repeat the test as the 1st one something had happened to it. Let us know how you get on tomorrow xxxxxxxx

Would guess its one of a cpl of things. Its shown up thrush and they wanna treat you or its shown up group b strep in which case you will need antibiotics during labour. Dont worry too much, anything much more than that id have thought they wud have asked you to go straight up

i get letters and calls like that for my bloods.. i go n see them n they say some thing silly like oh this is slightly low.. but dont worry xx

BV is yet another lovely virus us women can get from no where, no too dissimilar to thrush but with a very strong smell in alot of cases.


I wouldn't be too worried like the others have said, I had group b strep without knowing until after birth and Tommy was fine, i regularly get bv for no reason now and thats treated with antibiotics as well. i'm sure you'll be fine hun! x

Phew! It was just that the swab had picked up a little bit of thrush, but she said unless I have any symptoms which I dont then they don't treat it as it could well have cleared itself up between then and now! So relieved xx

only just seen this post, but when i was pg the exact same thing happend to me, it was just thrush they picked up on...but they didnt ring me i got a letter and prescription through the post

I dont see why the doctors couldnt tell you this though, instead of worrying you like that.
