Feeding routine?! _
PostSubject: Feeding routine?!   Feeding routine?! EmptyWed Mar 09, 2011 6:29 am

Two babies I know one is 5 months and fed on a strict 4 hourly routine, the other is 6 months and fed on demand

The 5 month is TINY is comparison...and it wasn't until today that I saw my other friends 9 week old who weighs just half a pound less than the 5 month old that I realised how small this 5 month old boy is..

So I get out the red book..this 5 month old weighs 12lb....at 8 weeks old Izzy weighed 11lb 5oz and she wasn't a big baby!

Now I know all babies are different and some will be smaller than others but FFS if your baby is in the bottom 2% for its age you wouldn't be restricting its milk would you?!

Its not even like a 'small' baby, its a normal length just really scrawny looking with no chubby cheeks or anything

So I asked how he was and they said he is a right moany grump..I wonder why!?!

Hmm its a trickty one, C i went on demand but she kinda put herself in a routine-and i weaned her at 4 months anyway so she was goig 4 hourly but she picked that and was getting food too

She was also scrawny without chub but shes always been on a bigger length centile than weight centile since birth shes just lean. But then she wasnt a grump she was content with it so i guess they should really consider if they are doing ehats best

Hmmm tricky one, I fed Libby on demand (BF) and she has always been tiny. Even now she has been eating anything and everything the last couple of weeks but is still tiny and skinny and hasn't grown at all in the last 3 months.

I know myself though, with Libby being so small if she asks for food she gets it - in my eyes I just want to get calories in her. xx

i fed on demand(bf)both of them, leo was a huge chunk and oliver after 15 weeks dropped through the centiles(weight and height though) and settled between 9th and 25th
is this baby bf?? i know for bf babies its better to feed on demand because the milk digests quickley? x

i bf alfie for the first couple of weeks and fed on demand an then d bottle him roughly every 4 hours but again he was a little chunk. common sense would say thou that if your baby was in the bottom centiles you would feed them up. strange people x

Is it even possible to restrict a baby's feed? I mean "a grump" is one thing but if either of my two had been denied a feed at that age they would have screamed blue murder not just grumped Shocked Laughing

Tbh by 5/6 month you would expect them to be approaching, if not started weaning so they should be getting to the stage where they are no longer satisfied by milk and therefore demanding more and more or be starting small amounts of solid in which case a 4 hour schedule should be fine.

I fed both on demand for 12 (Thomas) & 5 (Hannah) weeks and and then transfered staright onto a 3 hour schedule, Hannah was a hungry monkey who would (still will) feed till she popped. Thomas didn't need it so often and stretched it out himself to 4-4.5 hours (and still isnt fussed wether he eats or not scratch) so i guess all babies are just very different. Tbh I think if I left them unattended for too long Hannah might eat Thomas Laughing

xx
