Not going very well :o( _
PostSubject: Not going very well :o(   Not going very well :o( EmptyMon Apr 04, 2011 4:01 pm

Well I have had a total of 1 and a half hours sleep since my contractions started at 4:30am on saturday Neutral

Dexter has got really bad trapped wind (Simon is on his way to Tesco as we speak to buy some stuff) so has been keeping us (more me) awake, my stitches are really sore, my milk has just come in so my boobs are like cannon balls (well feel it, dont look it), my nipples are sore and I'm just absolutely exhausted.

To top it off Dexter hasn't pooed since about 2am yesterday (meconium still) so we're both worried about that, the MW checked him over yesterday and we've got to go back to hospital today because she thinks his testicles are 'too swollen', I have googled and found nothing to worry about but just dont need/want the hassle, he'll be having a scan on his hips in about 6 weeks so little bit anxious about that too, oh and he's tongue tied although thankfully not too severely so they're just going to keep an eye on it.

Because Dexter is constantly feeding or wanting a cuddle etc, I feel as though I can do even less with Libby than when heavily pregnant so feeling extremely guilty about that.

I know it will get better/easier but just seems a long long way off right now.

No need to reply, just needed to get it out (and poor Lise doesn't need me whinging to her, bless her).

I remember this well.

We had terrible trouble with Lily too. Are you breast feeding? I know that Lily's problems were because she didn't get on with her milk. I changed her to aptimil and she changed over night. We had constant screaming for 8 weeks.

Does he have a dummy? I have found that MAM dummies are brilliant and they also settled Lily without the need for cuddles - my friend had similar problems with her 6 week old when born and I told her about them and her little girl took to them immediately.

Try to get your head down when Simon gets back.

It's so hard and you never think it's going to end, but it will, I promise.

Bless you honey! It will get easier I promise, for now try and have a cuddle with Libby while feeding Dexter or something along those lines.
I hope you manage to get a bit of rest soon and that Dexter gets rid of his wind and does a little poo (poor lil man) xxxx

aw hun!!! I remember this too!!! god doesnt seem that long ago...

it does get easier I promise you!!!!! Try a dummy like girls said, see if that helps him. Im not surprised you feel exhausted with such litttle sleep. Also I do think having a 6hour discharge effected me. I had her at 6.20am I was home in bed by 2pm felt like it never happened was all so fast, felt didnt have time to take it all in. I really think this didnt help me when I came out.

Is there anyone who could have libby? (if I lived nearer I would have her! sure her and Lillie would cause some trouble hehe) but it hurt me so much but Lillie stayed at my mums for 2 night after bringing hollie home. Killed me I didnt see her and felt so guilty, at she had the attention from my mum and dad they took her out spoilt her rotten and she didnt know any different. she was quite happy, plus I had time to sort myself out and sort Hollie.

When Hollie was 1st born was a week or so I couldnt put her down, she wanted to be cuddled all the time, couldnt put her down or even sleep in the moses basket at night. I found wrapping her up in my tops helped. but only lasted a week then she was ok.

Hang on in there hun!! I promise it gets easier and you'l have some more sleep!!! sleep being the main thing!! and its all worth it in the end Smile big big hugs xxxxx

Mrs Machin dont make me come over there and slap you. You know I am ALWAYS just on the other end of the phone if you need me. Its never a hassle you are a friend.

Id also reccomend the MAM dummies. The 0-2 month ones aint cheap but well worth it, awen adores em cos she doesnt get on with bigger teats as shes got such a tiny head and mouth. Also despite what MW and HVs say have you tried swaddling lil man, used to settle C so well when she had reflux. Glad Si has got you some dentinox now it never worked for me and found gripe water the best but fingers crossed D will get on with it.

Like i said yesterday dont be guilting yourself bout libs let si play with her she will probs love some daddy time and when you are snuggled up on sofa with D get her up for cuddles then.

Try not to fret too much, concentrate on one thing at a time-the 1st being you getting a nap today and taking plenty painkillers! Call me or text me if you need a vent. Loves ya missus xxx

Aw suse.

Its sleep deprivation making you feel this way, trust me if you can get some nap times everything will start feeling better.

Let simon entertain libs this afternoon and take the little guy to be for a few hours. then swap for a bit so you can have some libby cuddles while Si has dexter for an hor or so.

i also recommend the mam dummies, god send for E.

we are here if you need to vent hun xxxxxxx

it will get better/easier i promise Smile

don't be too hard on yourself, the first week after ava was born was a total blur and i didnt have a toddler to look after.

make sure you get lots of rest and let simon take charge for a bit, you'll be fine once you find your feet so to speak.

Defo agree with the others hun, it wont last I promise, and youre doing a fab job!!

I had ALL the exact problems youre having and my list goes....

Dentinox - Flippin godsend, wait for the massive instant burps x

MAM Dummies - Better shape and size

Swaddling really tight......and OMG send out the baby police - BAD MUMMY ALERT.....I ALSO put her on tum because it helps with tummy pain

Also a sling works wonders for being able to deal with Libby too - Very highly recommend the 'close baby carrier' from mothercare or ebay......you can carry them or sway them if he has colic whilst getting on with your life.

Hope any of this helps xxx

Oh hun, I also know exactly what your going through, the first few weeks of Niamh's life are a total blur.

With regards to the not pooing and trapped wind, I just wanted to say that Niamh had the same problem. I was kept in hospital for 3 days as I was very poorly, I couldn't change or feed her myself for 36hrs after she was born, and because of this the midwifes gave her formula top ups. She passed her maconium but then nothing but foul smelling wind for nearly 3 days. When she did there was a small amount of blood in it, I didn't know at the time but it was down to her cows milk allergy. I just wanted to let you know so you can keep an eye on it just in case, I breast fed so we didn't find out she had the allergy until she was 6 months old, so I had been eating dairy and feeding her for 6 months oblivious to the fact that it was making her poorly and I feel so guilty about it now Sad I'm not saying Dexta has this, but just wanted you to be aware of it as I kept mentioning on going symptoms to the HV and they gave me all the excuses under the sun for what it was and it turned out they were totally wrong and didn't even know what cows milk protine allergy was!

I would also try a dummy, I used the nubby ones, pretty much the same as the mam ones and they are fab.

Try and get some rest and feel free to pm me if you want to know more xxx

Oh Suse, my lovely....first of all lady you ARE NOT Wonderwoman!!

Like the others have said, let Simon take over with Libby for a few days and when Dexter sleeps you sleep too right.

I can't add anything else to what everyone else has said, as obviously I haven't been there yet and no doubt I will be on here writing a very similiar post in the next few weeks.....but I just wanted to send you a great big hug and from what everyone else has said it will get better. xx

Hiya Hun,

I'm sure it won't last hun and like the others have said you are NOT wonderwoman and you are doing a fab job.

Please don't feel guilty about Libby, i'm sure Simon will love the extra time with her.

With regards to his hip scan, is it because he has talapies(if you don't mind me asking)? The reason I ask is Chloe has talapies and has had a scan on her hips which literally took 5mins to do, thankfully her hips are fine we are just waiting on an outpatients appointment, please don't fret too much.
The tongue tie I would defo keep an I on, we have just found out that Chloe has a posterior tongue tie and an upper lip tie which now makes sense as to why I am still so sore 10weeks on, some tongue ties cause no problems with breastfeeding and some do(god i sound like a right know it all Embarassed ).

Oh and sod the tidying...have a bloody rest woman

Love to you all Not going very well :o( 466645

Ok, I'll start with the tongue tie - it's basically where the line of tissue that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth is too far forward - so basically he wouldn't be able to stick his tongue out.

Nay, no Libby was born without a left hip socket and had to wear a harness for 13 weeks. Dexter apparantly is more at risk to having a similar problem so will be routinely scanned.

So, went to hospital for our 11am appointment to check his 'swollen testicles', was asked loads of questions by a neonatel nurse with regards to when he last opened his bowels/passed urine. Told her that he hadn't had a poo since 4am yesterday and weed about 2am this morning. She didn't seem concerned about the lack of poo but was concerned about the lack of wee especially with regards to his testicles. Was kept waiting for a good hour in a tiny tiny room with 3 very hard chairs and loads of medical equipment (and yep Libby was with us!!) for a pediatrician. Pediatrician turned up and looked at his testicles and thought it looked like the condition I'd read about online called Hydrocele. She then started going on about the lack of passing urine so wanted to check with a senior pediatrician (and for to confirm the condition). So again waited another hour in this poxy room for the other pediatrician, he checked Dexter over again and confirmed the condition and again raised concerns about lack of urine. He and another nurse observed me feeding Dexter and said he looked like he was feeding well so couldnt understand why he hadnt wee'd. He then decided he didn't want us to go home until he had passed urine so he could check everything was fine or if I he had to be kept in to be observed No (I broke down at this point - couldnt believe that I had given birth and gone home the same day 2 days ago and was now facing the prospect of having to stay overnight). We were both beginning to get VERY worried (I was just bawling Crying or Very sad ) by this point and I was trying to get him to feed as much as possible and left his nappy off to try and get him to wee - but nothing!! They put a bag over his willy to catch anything that came out and everytime I opened his nappy to check and saw nothing was just awful. At about 2:30pm we were asked if we wanted to move to a 'family sitting room' (just as tiny as the other one but with a sofa and toys), so we went in there and I was still trying to feed him etc. At about 3ish (I think) the nurse came and asked if we wanted to try some formula to get things moving - we said yes of course - we'll try anything, so gave him some formula and again waited. Can't remember exactly how long (felt like a lifetime) after that he started grunting and so I checked his nappy - he had finally wee'd and poo'd cheers . The nurse and pediatrician came in and checked and finally at 4ish was happy to send us home.

Libby was an absolute star through the whole thing, considering we were shoved in a cell like room for hours and hours she behaved brilliantly and entertained us all throughout. Couldn't be more proud of her Not going very well :o( 270211

We left the hospital at rush hour traffic and the journey that took us 15 mins on Saturday took us well over an hour today Mad

They have said though that they think the problem is his tongue tie and that he gets tired before he gets enough milk but have encouraged me to continue to BF. I'm going to see how things go but if this happens again he's going straight onto formula. We have got the MW coming again in the morning so are going to ask about having it snipped and what it involves etc.

Geez I went on a bit there - sorry Embarassed

So all in all a shitty, stressful day. But, tomorrow WILL be better - it's got to be surely??? xxxx

Hun like the other girls have said don't be too hard on yourself. Let Simon help out with Libby and when Dexter is sleeping maybe have a little mummy and libby time then, or get Simon to take dexter for a bit so that you and libby can have some time together. I feel like I can't really give any helpful advice as I can't speak from experience just wanted to send you massive hugs

Ah Susan hope things are evening out now. Can take a while for milk to come in and so many babies end up jaundiced and dehydrated in those first few days which then affects the other end too, yet rarely are you reassured that a few ounces of formula could be the way to go - glad you offered to do so!!
Urgh know what you mean about the hospital wait - awful feeling.
Take care xx
