how much milk to u give ur lo's? ive took evan off the bottle he used to get a bottle of milk at bedtime and one early morning but since taking him off the bottle and moving his milk into a beaker im finding that its curdling thru the night but evan likes to hold onto his cup as a comfort thing when sleeping and if he wakes he often jst has a drink then goes back to sleep but i cant risk him drinkin the milk incase it has curdled (and i dont know why its curdling cos that never happened in is bottle)so i have been puttin water in his beaker for going to bed which is working out good because his drinking less at bedtime and not looking for so much to drink thru the night so that will help when it comes to potty training! i have instead been giving him milk with his supper at 6.30/7pm, (he goes to bed 7.30) but he hasnt been drinking it! tonight is the second night and he hasnt touched the milk so today he has had the milk in his cereal and a tiny cup of milk with breakfast but thats been it! which i reckon wudnt even amount to half a pint prob not even a quarter of a pint in fact!shud i go back to puttin milk in his beaker and jst taking it away after he has drank it or fell asleep?or does he not need alot of milk now he is almost 2, he eats yogurts and plenty cheese to

Cerys has a bottle before bed and one first thing in the morning, This is what I worry about too when I do take her off the bottle because I know she wont drink a whole sippy cup. Sorry cant help much on this one xx

Hiya, Imogen still has a bf at breakfast and bed so I don't know how much help this will be but anyways.

She has about 4oz cows with both morning and afternoon snacks and the same later on after dinner (she has dinner earlier than us at nursery) either at nursery or, more often than not, when she gets home.

I'm looking to phase out the boob soon and plan to just offer a Tippee cup of cow instead, I want to try to avoid the bottle trap but you never know!

Tayla has a cup in the morning and one before bed. Personally i couldnt give her milk over night it would go off and give her a belly ache? I know if i leave my glass of milk for more than even half hour it taste warm and horrible. If your worried to you could always give him milkshake

I don't think you have to give them milk as a drink as long as they get dairy in other forms, cheese, yoghert's milk based sauce etc as long as they have the equivalent of 1pint a day, it's a couple of petit filous and some cheese and a small beaker of milk.
So I wouldn't worry, if he's settleing with water and he's getting his calcium from food it's fine.

Also, the curdeling thing, Oscar used to have tea in his tommy tippee beaker, which I also used to put juice in, and that made it curdle, no matter how much I cleaned it, rinsed it and even sterilized it, it was definately the juice because I got him one just for milky drinks and it never happened with that one!

Ellie has a full bottle when she wakes up and a bottle before she goes to bed. Until recently she also had one during the day.
I'll leave her having her bottles for as long as she wants them.

I have tried a cow cup but she didn't like it.

Wil has 3/4 pint in the morning and the same at bedtime both in a cup but he is a little guts.
He also eats yoghurt in volumes that amaze me too - a whole muller corner is quite common in one sitting and more than one a day given the opportunity.

I wouldn't worry too much because Evan will be getting diary in his diet anyway. I would try him on milkshakes and smoothies if you are concerned. Wil loves milkshakes so here's his favourite recipe:

500ml milk
scoop of vanilla ice cream
a banana
handful of strawberries or raspberries (I freeze them and chuck them in frozen)
handful of ice cubes.

chuck it all in a blender and whizz it until it is smooth
It makes about 2 pints so either drink some yourself too or put it in the fridge for later. You will need to put it back through the blender if you leave it in the fridge because it separates after a while.

Well callums exactly like Evan as in he likes to cuddle his milk at night but hes still usung bottles ive tried different cups bt he will just not drink milk out of them but juice he drinks fine.
I never even thought about the milk going off during the night

Tommy has about 6oz at nap time and about 4 oz at bed time (both in bottles) we don't bother in the morning because he doesn't want to sit still long enough to drink it lol, so he has milk in his cereal and squash, he is 21 months btw , was worried he is to old for bottles but seems like plenty others still are so thats good!

carla it never went off before, when he had his bottle 9 times out of 10 he wud drink the whole lot before going to sleep and jst cosy and empty bottle! but since changing to the cup he had it two nights and twice it the milk curdled! it cant be that anything else is in the cup cos he has seperate cups for juice i specifically got this one to replace the bottle its different to his juice cup and unless we are out he now drinks out of a normal plastic cup rather than a toddler cup!that recipe sounds pretty good im gonna give that a go thanks gill!!
