I have managed to get Izzy a place at the nice nursery starting Friday, thought I was gunna have to wait 6 weeks YAY!!!

ANyway on the way back I popped to the school cos the preschool woman said I should put Izzys name down....anyway turns out I was right..our area (dunno about anywhere else) they do not do 'lists' - the council send applications to everyone in about October 2012 and they have to be returned by jan 2013 .. then its done on catchment area, closeness to school, plus lots of other criteria ....

Hmmmmm well Im not sure what best to do about Caelyn. We are planning moving July 2013 to a diff part of my town 4 miles away. So do I apply for the school in thr new area and explain we are moving (and we are moving cos I want her going to school there not where we are living now) or do I apply for the school down the road, of the 2 there is one i wouldnt mind her going to, only to uproot her once we move

I dunno, I doubt the school will take any notice of you saying you are moving...so you'd likely be at the bottom of the priorities anyway .. I think the only thing is to apply as soon as you move

You fill out an application form on the local council site with your three preferences and you have between Oct and January to return them.

Ours is the same for pre school/nursery year (free year before primary) and for primary itself. You apply between Oct-Jan for intake the next Sept. I cant apply for Caitlins free year until next Oct/Nov for her to start in Sept 2013. They prioritise July/Aug bdays as they the eldest so hopefully Caitlin will get into my 1st choice no problem!

Its only playschool that you can put your name down for at anytime and they do waiting lists (Iv recently put Caitlin down for one and she due to start next Sept fingers crossed). There is no advantage/or option really, of getting their name down early for their pre school year or a primary. You have to just fill out a form at same time as everyone else! I actually think its a fairer way.

You have to fill in the application form for the area you live. My lo is due to start reception in sept 12. I want her in the school I am in but it's not my council. There is a list of 10 criteria. I fit number 3 on the scale, so she should get in. It doesn't matter either if they are in the school nursery.
