Had to call an ambulance (not for us!) _
PostSubject: Had to call an ambulance (not for us!)    Had to call an ambulance (not for us!) EmptyMon Jan 16, 2012 8:11 am

Had to call an ambulance for the first time today, we were just clearing up after dinner when someone started hammering on our door, pretty scary as it sounded like they were breaking it down! As we were unlocking we heard him shout "call an ambulance!" so I'm on the phone to the ambulance people before we've even got the door open (had to tell them i'd no idea why i was calling yet as we hadn't got the door open Embarassed must have sounded like a right moron!)

When we got the door open there was a man lying in the road with something beside him, I was trying to explain to the 999 operator what was going on while peering out into the dark, when I realised it was a pram pale .. thankfully it was upright, but the dad was lying in the road, our neighbour was putting him in the recovery position while I'm shouting to see if the baby is ok. Turned out the guy was epileptic and had had a fit, fallen over and bumped his head - he was talking and could give his name and how old the baby was but wasn't very lucid aside from that. We brought the pram into our living room (with dad's permission, we don't have a hallway, we're straight out onto the street so his dad could still see him) to keep baby warm but he was snoring away quite happily, thank god. The paramedics were here quite quickly to help him, and the man's dad and baby's mum weren't far after that. Didn't find out until after that the pram had fallen over too pale Poor little baby, it was a quite sturdy quinny and he was well padded so hopefully he didn't feel too much of a bump but how scary! Sad

Turns out the man had not long left his parents house to walk the baby home, and our neighbour had found him only a minute or two after he'd had the fit, and he was pretty lucky as if he'd gone a bit further he would have been on quite a dark footpath and I can't bear to think if no-one had seen him for ages - of course for his sake but also for the baby Sad Thank god our neighbour had found him, and thank god they were both ok!

Scary - not being funny but why would he take a baby out in the dark when he know she has fits? Surely he knew?

You're not being funny at all, I imagine he will be in for a rather large slap from baby's mum when he recovers!

Yep he knew - when the man's dad came up to collect the baby he was saying "He only left our house 10 mins ago, but we're used to it, happens a lot!" And I thought, I would never let my oh out of my sight with a baby in that case! Fair enough if it was a short walk home, he'd texted/called to say he was on his way so people would know if he was late but - what if he'd landed on the pram? what if the baby had got injured? what if a psycho had been the first to find them?? It doesn't bear thinking about! Just glad that if it had to happen it happened where it did iykwim.

He left a lovely huge pile of puke on the road outside our house too - I know he couldn't help it, but we gave him a pillow to put under his head..didn't really want it back after that! Laughing
