| last night in the bath i was remembering my labour with D and how they had me on the drip to speed up contractions ( never had it with boys ), i went from 5cms dilated to her flying out with only OH there to catch her all in 47 minutes so my question is and im sure there are many reasons why not but i dont know them why do they not put every woman on this drip and we all have faster labours ??? |

| Because its not natural, it makes your contractions more intense and can cause the mum to tear if happens to quick and the baby to be distressed. Well that's what I would guess anyway, it's basically an induction. Also probably some cost implications. |

| I agree with Kell, it makes everything more intense and can make things happen very fast and cause tears and distress to baby. I had to have it with Hannah as the induction with pessaries slowed right down and they kept upping it and all of a sudden I had to push and they said baby wasn't down far enough but she came all of a sudden and went into shock and didn't breath for over 2 minutes I can honestly say that drip was the worst experience of my life xx |

| I think it's cause it makes everything more intense, also it doesn't work that way for everyone. I had the drip at 2pm and didn't have Imogen till 10pm so although it helped me dilate (i was stuck at 6cm) it wasn't really any faster than the average |

| I had enough with drip for epidural and my bp and Lucas hb, than have anything else.
Just not sure although at times Lucas birth was stressful, I liked the fact it went a naturally rather than forced |

| I had the drip whcked up to full with ollie as obviously nothing could go wrong with him. he was out in 2 hours from start to finish. I would never be able to be induced again though as it increases the chances of placental abruption because the contractions are stronger |

| Hated the drip, it made my contractions so strong and close together that i thought i was going to rip in two but didn't help me dilate at all. I only got to 1cm with both labours, even whe I had the drip in Japan, and they made me lie flat on my back on a rock hard bed through my contractions, even though my instinct was telling me to get on all fours or at least be more upright, but the nurse actually pinned my arms down and pushed me down on the table On the plus side, that made me scream so much that I got wheeled out for a c-section not long after, thankfully! |
