I'm supposed to be going on mat leave - my last day should be 6 weeks today, which obviously would make me 34 weeks. I'm struggling enough as it is and really counting down the weeks/days til I finish.

Now the dilema is my boss has just asked me if I want to leave a week later and use a weeks holiday between now and then or even just work 4 days a week til then which would put my mat leave further on til I'm 35 weeks. This would mean it would give them another week to fit in holidays for themselves.

I really dont want to, I just want to work 6 weeks and then be off til Jan 2012 but I feel bad saying no.

The thing is they've cut their own noses off to spite their faces really because originally I would of tried to work til I'm 36 weeks and use the holidays I'm entitled to at the end but they told me I couldnt carry the holidays over to next year.

What would you ladies do??

Well if they havent been helpful with you, in allowing you to take your holidays, I don't see why you should do them any favours

I'd do what I wanted!

If you dont feel up to it then dont do it - you will probably just exhaust yourself and feel crappy - and we all know you dont want to be feeling poop in the last few weeks.

Is 8 weeks or so from today not long enough for them to fit in some of their holidays? What difference will 1 week make? They've had/have long enough to organise themselves so I'd be inclined to say that you're having a hard time with this pregnancy and as such don't feel you'll be either use nor ornament after 3
4 weeks so your last day in work will be xx/xx/2011. It's tough luck, thy're the bosses so they have to accept that being a boss isn't all sweetness and light and sometimes it sucks. Tough tits to them I say! x

LisaG, yeah it should be - you would think but they honestly are useless and rely on me far too much (and they have the cheek to moan at me because I've had 3 afternoons off this pregnancy plus my midwife appointments ). They are lazy feckers as well and give themselves 7 weeks holiday each a year - plus the odd day here and there when they feel like it!!

I've told them I'll think about it over the weekend, I know what Simon is going to say - tell em to piss off!

I would tell them that you are feeling exhausted so dont want to promise them that you can commit to it.

Well I've spoken to Simon about it and as I thought he basically says no way (well, thats the polite version ) especially as I'm struggling now.

So Monday I'm going to tell them no, I WILL be strong!!
