Isla doesnt go to nursery so doesnt often pick up bugs etc (has prob had 2 in her time)......so my question is......Is this gonna have a detrimental effect on her immune system???

Do they 'need' to get bugs when theyre little to build up an immune system......or is there plenty of time for that, and should I feel lucky?

When Izzy was at nursery she picked up bugs every week

Now even though she gets out loads she doesn't catch bugs and is generally very healthy...so I have no idea!

My boys don't go to nursery either and have had 2 tummy bugs and H has had quite a few colds etc. Poor Lewis gets what H has. But in answer to your question I don't know I hope it doesn't make a difference. H will be going to pre- school soon so I am sure I will all change x

Other kids carry all sorts of bugs. Maddy went to a child minder when I was working who watched her with 2 of her own kids. She never got sick. Kindergarten time came..and her first year was hell! She was sick just about every other week and missed quite a few days. Reminded me of the First Nations story about how the settlers infected blankets with small pox to wipe them out. The more exposure to bugs..the stronger her immune system will become..its a hell ride to get there, but by the time she's ready for school she'll be like fort knoxx. xxx

Bethany started nursery in December 2009 when she was 8 months old and I've got to say that from then until February 2010 time she had a cold for virtually the whole 3 months none stop, she then got chicken pox in April and since then not much else just the odd snuffle "touch wood" so I think the exposure has helped her. People have said to me that it's good to get things now to build up an immunity otherwise it's when they go to school and get all bugs. Hope this helps.

Wil is like Bethany. Lots of sniffles when he first started with his childminder now he is tough and fights them off.

I am a great believer in not being too clean too. Wil is permanently covered in dog and cat hair and seems to have developed a superhuman immune system.
