So...does any ones lo still have a dummy? Taylas nearly 17months and still has a dummy just to fall asleep with. She usually looses it after shes nodded off and if we are out she naps without it.
I dread the thought of getting rid of it yet but i always said it would be gone by the time shes 18months.
What age do u thinks appropriate to say bye to the dummy?

My LO stopped having his at 9mth old, but that was his own doing, but omg..did we all know about it Shocked Rolling Eyes

I think I was about 18mth-2yrs old when my mum said she took mine off me.

I'm not to sure how you want to do it tbh..just go cold turkey and say 'all gone' or do the 'dummy fairy' thing Laughing

It will most probably be a few hard bedtimes but she'll soon learn to settle without it Wink

What about maybe trying with nap times 1st and the see how she goes with that.

Caitlin still has hers (13mths). Im really trying at the min only to give it to her when she in her cot at night and at naptime. She always seems to find one somewere though and slips it in when im not looking Surprised As long as she only takes it at night when she 18mths I dont think I'l mind tbh. I still suck my thumb to sleep Embarassed I dont think im going to cause her or myself hours of tears and stress over a dummy. Some may think im a 'bad' mum for having that attitude but I think there's more to worry about than a dummy at bedtime.... as long as it isnt hanging out of their mouth 24/7 and they aint taking it to school.

I'l prob regret this attitude when she still using it at 9 and I have to go to a 24hr garage some night to get her to sleep Laughing

If it were me, I'd let her keep it!

Its not doing her any harm cos its only at night, and its obviously a comfort to her. Izzy has had a nunu blankie forever, she loves him and snuggles and sucks him at night...I honestly dont care how long she keeps him for because it helps her sleep.

Snoopy - that is just the same attitude I have with Abbie and her Dummy. Lottie just gave up having one when she was 8 months and never bothered for it after that. However there is NO WAY Abbie is giving up hers yet!!

I am trying to limit her to only having it at bed time, but she is teething at the moment and it really does comfort her so at the moment....Dummy Stays!!!

Also, it is harder for me not to give ne to her when she now goes to nursery 2 days a week and other babies have one!

Aimee still has hers.

With the new baby coming, I am doing everything in stages:

This week - big girl bed and new room
Xmas - potty training (she will be 22 months)
February - drop the dummy

Im going to try to do it so it doesnt upset or disturb her. If anything doesnt work in that way, then so be it, she wont be using it at 16 (I hope, lol!) so im not too worried x

Chloe still has hers, I don't see the problem with her having it, she only really has it when she's sleeping now. I think I'm going to wait until she's a bit older before taking it away then will probably send it to the dummy fairy or something like that x

Thanks ladies, well im quite happy to let her keep it for now. Tonight was weird though, i gave her her milk and had a cuddle and said 'would u like your dummy now' she replied 'no' and took it out of my hand and threw it on the floor saying 'gone!' .....so tonight shes gone without it!! She has a stash in her cot though so she might use it later if she wakes up.

H still has his but they live upstairs and he only has it for bedtime and naps. He quite happily throws it in his cot when we get him up. He falls asleep without it in the car. Im going to let him keep it until he can understand im giving it to father xmas or dummy fairy. I took Lewis's away at 7weeks as didnt want to go throught the whole getting up in the night to put the dummy in saga again x

Hannah lost hers a while ago - cant remember what age but she was maybe about 17/18 months. maybe earlier.

I just thought it would be easier now than later. one night I didnt give her it three days later she was completely fine going to bed without it. best thing I have ever done.
when I say to her now does hannah want a dodi she says "nooooooo" and when I ask her who a dodi is for she says "my baby"

having said that its not something I disagree with - a toddler having a dummy past that age - I just thought it would make my life a bit easier because it broke my heart doing it but I cant imagine how hard it would be when she would be asking for it over and over again Sad

Jack still has his, thinking of getting rid of it soon aswell. Dreading it!!

He's relying on it more and more and asks for it throughout the day now, think i need to nip it in the bud.

He's alot older than your little one though!

Sorry not much help really!!

Father Christmas is taking Wil's in return for a scooter.

He only has it in bed at nap time and bedtime or on long car journeys when him having a sleep would be convenient for the day's plan.

I tried taking his cot dummies away one evening (he has 3 that live in his cot) and the poor little sod had the bed apart looking for it, pulled his pillow up, moved the toys around and even put his hand down the side of the bed to see if there was one there. I felt awful so went and got them.
