| I've been giving Caitlin 2.5ml (sml end of med spoon). This is the dose stated on Calprofen -1-2yrs 2.5ml. Since Caitlin got poorly last week my cousin who has a 23 mth old was saying to give her 5ml of it, she has been giving her lil girl that amount for months. When I said I thought it was 2.5ml she said maybe it was weight related then (her LO is a bit chunkier than Caitlin). Her LO has also had febrile convulsions before so we thought possibly dr had prescribed higher dose due to this as she prone to high temps when ill. Anyway, Dr prescribed Caitlin cheap version of both calpol & ibuprofen at the weekend. The cheap version (APS) of ibuprofen says 1-4 years 5ml. Both Calprofen and cheap version are 100mg/5ml. Iv started just giving Caitlin 5ml of Calprofen as im using up the btl before opening other one. Just wondered what dose you all give & if you knew that you could give a bit more. Actually is there any other reason im missing as to why Calprofen recommend smaller dose? |

| I cant understand why Calprofen is lower. Suppose the APS one says 3x a day, and calprofen says 3-4x. But even so... 3x5ml = 15ml and 4x2.5ml= 10ml so the cheap one still recommending more over 24hrs.
Im sticking with the bigger dose! Feel like iv been made a mug of the last 6mths lol. x Just edited as forgot to say thanx donzy lol! You were also the 1st to diagnose Caitlin with hand foot and mouth! Id never heard of it! |

| The dose given 'over the counter' tends to be 2.5ml three times a day because it has to take into account general weights of babies ( this is for upto 2yrs old) Occasionally Dr's will use increased doses, but these should only be used for 3 days only. I will find out the mg/kg/day for you, so if you give me your babies weights then I will work out the exact dose safe for your babies if you want me to. Ibuprofen is a stronger drug than paracetamol therefore you need less of it, and cant be given in equivalent 'mls'. Hope this helps - Lisa x |

| I have just worked out Islas dose for a comparison. Isla is 28lb (about 12kg), so her dose is 6ml three times a day. |

| I usually put 5ml in the syringe with a view that at least 1ml will end up other than in Wil's mouth |

| Thanks, Lisa. Caitlin is 27lb so guessing that 5ml is pretty much spot on for her anyway weight wise. x |

| Aimee has never had it. We are not sure 100% if she is allowed it, so need to check with her cardiologist. She has Calpol though, and I increased her dose to 5ml about 6 months ago on the rare occasions she has needed it. x |
