Just wondered how everyone dealt with them. Jamie throws the most almighty strops now - we get screaming, back arching, shouting, tears. We just ignore them unless its making his breathing really bad but even then we don't give him the thing his throwing a strop about. What do the rest of you do

Ignore, ignore, ignore! No eye contact, no talking, walk away from them....

Its hard to do but especially when they not 100% steady on their feet and have no language to tell you what they want. It gets easier to ignore when they hit 2 imo. Before 18mths I was more worried about her hurting herself.

Caitlin has thrown some epic one's including ripping her own vest in a tantrum. Snot flys and she goes red in the face, a real angry puppy!

Generally if she tantruming about getting nappy changed I carry on changing it eg a tantrum wont stop it happening, same with being put in pram/trolley (though thats bloody hard mid tantrum). I then ignore her until she stops. If she having a strop because iv said no to something I let her scream and throw herself about, continue to do what im doing and dont react.

The only thing that bugs stuart is once I see her calming down I do lift her up and cuddle her and tell her it was very silly behaviour and would she like to stop crying and do xyz with me. Stuart thinks thats rewarding bad behaviour but I kinda think they get themselves so worked up sometimes they dont know how to stop crying iykwim. I think they can scare themselves sometimes and totally rejecting them makes things worse. I wouldnt cuddle her or let her climb on me when she in full tantrum but when she calming I have no problem with it.

Stuart sometimes lengthens a tantrum imo by repeating to her 10x what she did wrong & telling her she's been naughty over and over. He also threatens her mid tantrum eg stop or il turn tv off - which makes her scream louder, TV goes off & tantrum escalates - que stuart making a new threat eg no more ice lollys ever and tantrum escalating again Rolling Eyes
