PostSubject: double pushchairs ??   double pushchairs ?? EmptyTue Jan 17, 2012 8:20 am

Well im not due until July with my 2nd and i was wondering whether to get a cheap 2nd hand double pushchair (i dont want to spend alot) Riley is 3 now and walks everywhere but when we go to town i sit him in the pushchair once we've walked from where we park, mainly because we spend 3-4 hour there which i know he'd end up being tired plus he has to touch everything (so he behaves better) would you bother getting one? what have u done if u have had a 3year old and a baby? and if u did get one which sort of double is big enough for a 3year old thanx for looking everyone xx

OMG I've just logged in to ask exactly the same question, only Imogen is just 2 so walks less but to be honest I haven't used her travel system pram in ages. It's still in good nick so would use that again for lumpy but I hate the idea of a buggy board/bench - where's the incentive to behave when all you can see is mummy's wobbly belly jiggling at you or the back of a pram and you're quite likely to bang your head on a cupholder??

Sorry to hijack the post but I'll be watching carefully to see what replies come your way. X Em

i probably would if i got pregnant anytime soon cos i do think its handy to trap elijah in the pram and don't want to loose that ability anytime soon. i have seen loads of people with the baby jogger city mini double which looks awesome and this one http://www.twins-store.co.uk/EasyWalker-Duo-Double-Buggy-09

i would get looking on gumtree, ebay and netmums local nearly new sales (amazing bargains sometimes), also jack and jill baby markets and nct sales are worth looking - our local jack and jills has had quinnys and p+t's going for 70-150£ - bargain!!!

Jeezycreezy that one in that link - is it made of plutonium? My car didn't cost much more than that, and that's got an engine and a heater included lol

Imogen was 2yr 2months when Joshua was born. I don't have a double and tried Immi just walking with Josh in pushchair, was a bit of a nightmare as she kept running off (even with reigns!) so now i have Joshua in baby carrier and Immi in pushchair. It works well for us. I've looked into buggy board but wasn't sure, might get one in a couple of months when Joshua is too heavy to carry for long time.

I only ever go 30mins away from home really as theres not much in my town. When I go properly out shopping I go with Matt so he has one of them in a pushchair and I have the other.

Somedays I do wish I had a double but really I don't need it. I do fine with the carrier and it means not pushing a bulky double and having an extra pushchair to store

If I were you I would wait till June ish and see how Riley is walking then as a lot can change in 6months. I'm hoping by 3 Immi will be walking well enough that we just use pushchair for Joshua and she walks.

I've got the baby jogger city mini double which I love but Stephen is only 20 months so needs it! I would just get a really cheap one if you feel you need it, didn't Mario find a good cheap one scratch But I'd wait till much nearer the time and see how he's getting on then xx

Thomas was only 18 months when I had Hannah so I got a double. However Thomas hasn't been in a buggy since summer now so about 2 1/2. I think it very dependant on your lifestyle and your child with this one tbh, but I would recommend a buggy board. Yes I must admit you do have to walk a bit funny at times and takes a little getting used to (again dependant on what type of buggy you have) but Thomas does get quite tired after a while of traipsing round town or walking too and from nursery so I couldn't be without one or the other yet. He does love his buggy board and he stands and watches the world go by and because he's that bit higher up we can have a right good chat about what we can see etc so I think it's quite a good thing.

xx

Im with Debs, def get a buggy board. Hannah was 15months when Joseph was born so I had a double buggy from the moment I found out I was preg ( i had a P&T which could be used as a single until J was born) Hannah is now 2 1/2 and she is starting to want to walk everywhere but normally only ends up walking one way, if that makes sense. We walk every weekend so she is pretty used to walking, but its nice to have the option if she is tired of letting her get in the 2nd seat. I made the mistake the other day of not putting it on and she wanted carrying then and trying to push a buggy and hold a her was a whole lot harder than having a buggy board 'in the way' slighty.
I would imagine by 3 she really wont need to go in the seat at all so will either invest in a buggy board or get them to swap, but thats six months away and Joseph will be 20months.
xx

I saw one of these the other day which is an easier option than replacing a whole pushchair http://www.buggypod.com/

I've got 13 months between my two so had to have a double and have the jogger select and I've been through a few. E is three next month and sometimes may walk 2-3 miles other times she doesn't want to know. I'd maybe get an idea of what you want and wait till bubs is born :-)

We stopped using a pushchair for Libby when I was pregnant so she was only just 2, we just gradually increased how much we walked so she got used to it.

i personally am NOT buying a double this time...first off we'll have lily-ann in a wheelchair, so the less bulky for new baby the better, and lewis is old enough now that he can walk loads without getting too tired...he can easily walk a couple of miles before whinging he's tired.
tbh at 3 i'd say a pram is unnecessary, but i suppose it depends on the child...if my lily-ann could walk i'd happily not be using a buggy at all at the moment Sad

thanx for all the replys i am still thinking of getting one and would only be using it for town anywhere else he does walk its just i know how bored he gets and hard to control he is in town ive seen one on ebay for £10 which i think would be ideal plus will be cheaper than buggy boards etc, i do let him walk until he gets fed up, and i still will but if he's tired or not behaving properly he can have a rest.

kind of need to teach him how to behave in town, an its better done while you just have one to teach and not two! Braden was like that, and still is sometimes where he will grab things/run off/throw himself on the floor etc but when he first got out the buggy he was a nightmare, and im glad i got him over that stage before i had dita walking!
You gna leave him in a buggy til he is 12? cos from everyone i know with kids they are little sh*ts while shopping til that age when you can leave them at home lol =op
im hoping it doesnt sound too harsh cos im not sure how to word it and im saying absoloutly nothing against you, just some advice, but i guess im just trying to say i think behaviour isnt really a valid reason to strap a kid in a buggy if you get me? x

I can see where Niccsy is coming from. Imogen is a nightmare in town/round shops so we tend to stick her in pushchair still but really she can walk, its just my convinience. I really do need to teach her to walk sensibly but it is so much harder when you have two. Maybe use these 6months till baby is due to encourage Riley to be out of his pushchair more. Double buggies are heavy and hard to get round town - another reason we haven't got one.

Is he really naughty round town then? An you not start using reins until he does get the idea? Hannah is still quite little (in size I mean not age) so she does get a bit worn out but I only put her in if she's tired not lazy. Like we won't carry her she either walks r goes in buggy if she is tired.
That's why I think a buggy board by 3 is not unreasonable. And itd save you having to get another buggy. X

i might leave getting one for now and keep trying him out then, i think it probably is more for convenience and probably me thinking how will i cope with 2 in town if i have to go myself, i dont really have the option to leave him at home me and my mum r the only ones who really look after him and its my mum i go to town with (my oh is always at work when we go town) we dont use reins either has he can easy pull us over with them, and hand straps he gets out of so its hand holding but he is so strong he nearly pulls us over just holding hands sometimes xx
