Feeds for 6months old _
PostSubject: Feeds for 6months old   Feeds for 6months old EmptyThu Mar 15, 2012 4:29 am

Joshua seems to be losing interest in his mid morning and afternoon feed. He feeds for a long time when he wakes at 7am, then 10am i feed him but he's only on the boob about 5mins and doesn't seem to be feeding properly, more playing. He has a good feed at 1pm, then 4pm he has short feed again where he doesn't really seem to feeding properly. He has a bottle at 7pm before bed and goes all night. It is too early to drop these feeds? Or should I shift them round a bit so 4hourly feed then drop one?

I was fully bottle feeding Immi at this point so knew exactly how many ounces she was having and could judge it with guidelines for ages, its so much harder when you don't know how much is coming out your boobs! I know my milk comes out quick as neither Immi or Josh ever fed for longer than 10-15mins but surely he can't be getting much in 5mins.

Those that have kids same age or can remember back, how many feeds does/did your 6month old have?

I would drop it. Jamie was still having quite a few feeds at this point but had only just gone onto solids. He then started dropping feeds quite quickly. I was always told that they would take what they want so to trust them

Joshua has only just started on solids so think it's to do with that. Might try to shift to 4hr feeds, loose one feed and if he still doesn't seem interested just drop the other.
I know i should trust him and myself but i worry lol

Sorry I thought he'd started earlier for some reason. Jamie must have dropped feeds quite quickly because af returned when he was 7 months and I remember thinking it was no wonder because he was feeding so much less

We tried earlier but he was terrified of a spoon after Immi kept ramming it in his mouth! Tried blw at 5.5months but i wasn't good at giving him different stuff, kind of lost inspiration so was a bit experimental weaning. He's only really started with proper meals this last week. He's happy to have spoon now though and loving his food so guess it's fair he don't want so much milk. I mix some formula in with his porridge so he's getting some there too.

I think Noah was on 4 hourly feeds at 6 months, like you he'd only just started weaning. He did really well on a 4 hour schedule so it's definitely worth a try! Smile
