I dont know if Isla is 'speaking' about average, or not?

She babbles a lot that I dont understand, plus lots of single words....

Dog
Cake
Hiya
Cat
Ello Speech - Im a bit worried! Icon_rolleyes
Bag
Bye
Kiss
Narna (banana)
Ju Juice
Mama
Dada
Dad
Baby
Belly
Cheese
Poo
Door
Ball
Shoe (comes out lots like 'douche' Speech - Im a bit worried! Icon_scratch )
Bear
Chippies

She doesnt put 2 words together yet?? She undertstands a lot of what we say though now?

Is this normal? If its not how can I help her?

Izzy is a month (I think!) younger than Isla and this is her list of single words used regularly that I know she knows why she is saying them, although some (in brackets) she doesnt say correctly yet

she says other stuff but either its not obvious what or its just babble!

dog
denny
out
na (no)
hello
bye
bumbum (for when she wants a nappy change)
nanna
daddy/dad/daddio Speech - Im a bit worried! Icon_lol
mummy
seesaw
nunu
doh (playdoh)
numnum (when she is hungry)
ta (thanks)
der (here) - she uses this ALOT for things she cant say - like if she wants something she points and says der, or gives me things and say der to open etc, or says it when she closes a door!

counting 1-10 but the numbers are not quite right yet, just sound a bit like it
'what is it' is the only thing more than one word though

she understand a hell of alot more than she can say though, she understands I would say the majority of what I say - or understand enough to know what I mean IYKWIM

Izzy has only really just started to 'learn' words properly, I think the only way to help is to repeat and tell them what it is all the time

LisaG had some great picture cards from ELC that I'm going to get, I think they will help.
Izzy also has lots of fab picture books, this in particular she loves http://www.amazon.com/First-1000-Words-Disney-Learning/dp/0786834099 so if you don't have anything like that I'd recommend as they have little games like finding things in each scene and counting

Chloe's really good with her speech and can say around about 100 words, but she doesn't put them together properly yet, she does say cup of tea, although it sounds like one word when she says it, and things like 'Daddy work' but other than that most of the words she says are singular.

I talk to Chloe all the time, when I'm doing things, I tell her what I'm doing, I point out everything and say it's name and ask her to repeat it, when we meet new people, I'll repeat their name to her until she tries to say it. I also read to her a lot and get her to point things out in books, like dog, cat etc

Also I believe you should talk to them properly, not in baby talk, I hate it when people say things the wrong way to her because it's just going to teach her to speak like a moron, my mum's the worst culprit for this!

Isla is younger than Thomas and has LOADS more words than him. It's only really been in the last month that he has even started to try to copy me. I am constantly repeating things and encouraging him but he's just not interested. He will get there - and I'm glad he is starting to try. Isla is doing fab hun don't worry.

Seb (18 months) makes a "Daddy" noise and with a bit of imagination he might be saying "hiya", but that is it... I'm not worried yet. He is very noisy and sounds like he thinks he is talking - at nursery he was the noisiest child in the baby room apparently and kept the others awake in the cot room, babbling away.

Sounds to me like Isla is doing fine,

Ros

nope all sounds good to me. i think she says more then rowan.

He now says

Dada
daddy
mama
oscar
cat
bubbles
up
down
bye
hello
yeah
ta
whats that
what is it
he also says two when i say one.
yum yum

i think he might say a few more but i cant remember.

his understanding is brilliant, i ask where his bottle is he'll go get it. i ask for a nappy and wipes he'll go get them. put this in the bin and he puts it in the bin. if i tell him to go sit down he'll go straight into the living room and sit down on the sofa.

and his fav is lets go and get daddy and he grabs the keys (any keys he can find) and goes straight to the front door trying to open the door repeatedly saying daddy

Lisa it sounds to me like she is doing fine just keep talking to her and if you think you understand what she says repeat the word back to her properly so she can practice.

My sister's little girl's speech took off at about 20 months and now at 25 months she can hold a conversation so it may all come at once.

Lisa Isla says tons more that Amelia. Funily enough Amelia "speaks" more to other people than to me of Dave. I frequently come home from work and my Mum will say "you didn't tell me she could say...xyz" and I never knew she could!

None of her "words" are accurate but she says;

Ma na naa (Banana)
Pla doh (play doh)
Ello (hello)
Gama (Grandma)
Daddad (Grandad)
Da da (daddy)
Nannan (Nanny)
Baff (bath)
Dis (what's this)
Ted ted (teddy)
I uv ooo (I love you)
Nah (no)
Yep (yes)
Car
Shoes

She make a multitude of noises though and can do every animal noise that I can think of. She will try to repeat almost everything you say to her but only seems to be able to do the 1st noise of the word. She understands SOOOO much though so I'm not worried, she follows quite complex instructions and reacts to the quietest noises so I know she can hear well too. I think it's just going to take her a little bit of time.

She sounds like she's doing really well, Like Deb's Thomas, Oliver has only really just started sprouting words out and they seem to be coming thick and fast. He's always said the 'odd' word but now getting more adventurous.

I think she's doing very well for her age though, my LO hasn't started stringing more than 1-2 words together yet though, but the understanding is there so I really wouldn't worry Speech - Im a bit worried! Icon_biggrin

Am I the only one who's kid literally does not shut up?! lol

Connie tells me everything she does, she is a brilliant wee talker and her speach is fantastic. She knows every word I say, and can ask me for pretty much whatever it is she wants.

She repeats everything I ask her to say, my fav word she says is strawberrys it is so cute lol.

I'm not sure if it's because she's not around other kids that much, that it's always adult conversation she hears but she literally never shuts up lol.

xx
